Teen and Pre-Teen Acne

Teen and Pre-Teen Acne

Preteens and teens are the age group primarily affected by acne—the most common skin disorder in the U.S., according to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD). While acne causes visible symptoms, it also adversely affects self-esteem. Understanding the symptoms, causes and applying the solutions can make this troubling disorder quite manageable.

Adolescents, pre-teens and teens are the most common age groups affected by acne. The AAD indicates that over 40 percent of adolescents get acne and/or acne scarring, while 87 percent of teens between the ages of 15 and 18, experience acne. The onset of acne is mainly due to the body producing more oil glands during its “changing years”, usually between the ages of 10 to 13.

Did You Know?

• Blackheads are the first stage of acne and are not caused by dirt alone.
• Teens whose parents had bad acne are genetically predisposed to develop acne.
• Most acne resolves by the time sufferers reach their 20s but can continue into adult years for some.

Those experiencing blackheads or other acne symptoms need to ramp up their skincare routine stat to help keep acne in check and prevent acne scarring. To learn more see Teen Acne Symptoms, Acne Causes & Triggers and Teen Acne Solutions.
