Have you ever heard the term you are what you eat? Have you ever thought about how your skin is affected by the food you consume? It wasn’t until I started cracking down on my food in preparation for my wedding day that I started to really pay attention to what I ate. I started the diet called the Whole30…a Paleo-type diet designed to help you understand your food, and rather than eliminating the diet restricts the bad, and helps encourage the good.
While I truly enjoyed this type of diet’s lifestyle, there are many aspects of the diet that aren’t realistic. There just going to be times that you don’t have the time, resources, and sometimes even finances to live this lifestyle. I’ve since kept a modified version of the diet–and I do occasionally (okay, maybe more than I’d like to admit) indulge. The diet did do one thing really well: it forced me to read EVERYTHING I eat. I mean EVERYTHING.
So how do I choose my food? I LOVE SNACKS (who doesn’t?) …but I make my choices these days by carefully thinking out and planning what I’m eating. Instead of reaching for an over-processed cookie filled with all sorts of harmful ingredients (and sugar, always sugar!); I reach for those organic, all-natural “cookies” containing NO added sugar (fake sugar is bad too!) and 100% healthy ingredients. Trust me when I say that while that “cookie” doesn’t taste the same as those delightfully sugared up ones you find in the middle of the grocery store–I know I’m doing something better for my body!
How Your Food Is Harming Your Beauty Routine
So let’s talk beauty. Did you know that the food you consume has serious effects on your skin? If you don’t believe me–I challenge you to spend 1 week at the grocery store reading your labels. Actually read them. You’re going to be surprised at the number of harmful ingredients that are added to our diets. Diets that mainly consist of unnatural, overprocessed foods that include an overconsumption of sugar, alcohol, gluten, and dairy…all things that can trigger seriously negative side effects and inflammation on your body. Your body’s largest organ is no exception! What you eat can show up in the form of blemishes, fine lines & wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, and sagginess! …and while I’m not telling you to eliminate these things completely, I challenge you to load up on foods that will feed your beauty from the inside out!
Embrace a healthy diet, and think about what you’re putting on your skin too and I promise, you’ll notice results! Here are a few foods that can help you feed your beauty from the inside out:
This green vegetable makes a delicious snack on its own, and can even make a great addition to your salad! What does it do for my body? Cucumber aids in reducing inflammation, but also helps the body repair from the effects of stress while reducing anxiety!
I love the smell of lavender essential oils in my diffuser, or even just lighting a candle to calm my mood. Place essential oils by your bedside…it can even help promote a restful sleep! Not only does it smell fantastic, but lavender can also help reduce inflammation and bloating while also helping with skin sensitivities.
I LOVE to toss this herb over my roasted vegetables or even as a rub on my steak. What does it do for my body? This anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, and anti-inflammatory herb but is also known to aid in memory and contain cancer-fighting properties.
Grapefruit & Lemon
Lemons are seriously one of my favorite fruits (maybe that makes me a little sour?) to put in water as drinking just plain water sometimes can get a little…bland. What does it do for my body? These citrusy fruits have seriously amazing effects both inside and out! A great way to regulate your weight, grapefruit helps boost your metabolism and immune system! Lemons help with detoxifying your body, brightening skin, and reducing excess oil!
I can’t say that I’ve ever had this luxurious food (I don’t like fish!) but did you know that just ONE serving of caviar meets your recommended daily B12 consumption? What does it do for my body? Caviar promotes healthy cells, and a healthy nervous, circulatory, and immune system.
Here are Pevonia products containing this ingredient: Pevonia Myoxy-Caviar® Collection
An iced green tea is probably one of my favorite refreshers, especially in the summertime! What does it do for my body? This powerhouse antioxidant is known for its ability to boost the immune system! It also is linked to inducing fat loss and improving brain function!
